Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, celebrated businessman and philanthropist from Zambia, have wholeheartedly supported the latest decision from the Zambian President. President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, recently made a bold announcement on the eve of Africa day. In this announcement, he stated that he plans to abolish the death penalty law. This decision from the President received significant support from the general public. Dr. Rajan Mahtani specially supported this decision. Dr. Mahtani is known for his several philanthropic and charitable contributions over the years. One of his philanthropic contributions has been the Prison Fellowship Zambia. It is one of the most notable Christian Outreach Programs across the nation. The organization focusses on providing effective and fair criminal justice, teachings and gospel of Jesus Christ as well as fundamental human rights for the inmates from Zambia.
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, in a recent interview with the Mast Newspaper, stated that killing of the convicts by giving them death penalty is not a solution for increasing illegal activities across the nation. Even those on a death penalty row deserve fundamental human rights and human dignity. Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that the practice of death penalty is inhumane, degrading and cruel and only a person who is passionate will be able to make such bold yet necessary statements. Also, the voice towards abolishing this inhumane practice is not new in Zambia as well as the world as several organizations and countries have already moved towards the practice of abolishing this inhumane law. Also, Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that those who are working towards abolishing this practice are actually working towards assuring the inmates of the God’s rewards towards blessing and healing.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani highlighted that more than 380 inmates in Zambia are currently facing death penalty and are living a difficult life every day, not knowing their last day on this earth. Also, previous Presidents have tactically avoided the death punishment but not have worked towards abolishing it. As such, the announcement by Zambian President Hichilema is wholeheartedly welcomes.
