It is often regarded that ‘what doesn’t break you, makes you stronger’. Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the former Chairman Finance Bank and Chairperson of Mahtani Group of Companies has abided by the same principle and has made this year successful for himself. It all started with Zambia Reports and the Ventriglia family, who together formed an alliance against Dr. Mahtani and decided to initiate a defamation campaign.

However, the rate of success for them was zero, as they couldn’t do anything apart from ventilating their thoughts through a news portal. Infact, even Nyasa Times was also funded to write against Dr. Mahtani. Nevertheless, the matter when to the court and on July 28 2015, the Malawi Court ordered Nyasa times to remove the negative news against Dr. Rajan Mahtani as he was innocent. During the same period, Zambia Reports was also issued with numerous warning and a letter of GoDaddy, website domain service provider, was also asked to terminate the license of Zambia Reports, the consideration for same is still in process.

The big win for Dr. Rajan Mahtani came in November 2015, when the Lusaka High Court dismissed the claim of the conspirators and concluded that the charges which were put on Dr. Mahtani will not be considered as the decision was already given for the same in 2012. Additionally, the Mahtani Group of Companies was also able to start the proceeding for a bio-ethanol plant in Luapula Province under a partnership with Sunbird Group. The project has also received appreciation from the President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu.

To sum up, the year was full of challenges for Dr. Rajan Mahtani, but he never gave up and accepted corruption. He was there to fight for himself and most importantly, fight for Zambia’s pride. With the New Year, he would be targeting more on big development projects apart from putting an end to the conspiracy which Zambia Reports is advertising.
