The UPND, in a press statement, has expressed its concern over growing conspiracy in Zambia and the influence of money power. The arrest of Dr. Rajan Mahtani in early June 2015 was one of the most shameful events that took place in Africa. The amount of harassment which he had faced along with the disrespect shown by the police is simply unimaginable. However, it was his moral and principles that allowed him to remain calm and composed throughout the procedure.
UPND stated that “the nation appears to lack institutional capacity to strengthen good democratic governance.” The statement clearly indicates the incapability of the present Government to safeguard the interest of its citizens.
How can be a ‘permanently closed’ case be reopened?
A mockery of the judicial system of Zambia was seen when a case which was ‘permanently closed’ in 2012 was reopened and Dr. Rajan Mahtani was once again charged with the same offence. No logical explanation of this fact can be derived after from the conclusion that a party had bribed the Government officials to execute this task.
A nation can only develop when its citizen realize the importance of truth and honesty. In Zambia, most of the people work hard and try to contribute towards the development of the nation. However, there are some people for whom there is nothing greater than monetary benefits.
