Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessperson and philanthropist from Zambia, applauds the decision made by the Zambian President recently. President Hichilema, on the even of the Africa Day,’ made an announcement that he is planning to abolish the cruel, degrading and inhuman punishment of death penalty altogether. After this announcement, President Hakainde Hichilema received significant mixed reactions. However, the positive reactions have been significant and Dr. Rajan Mahtani along with his organization Prison Fellowship Zambia have also supported this decision
Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, adding his voice to the decision from the President, stated that killing of convicts has never been a solution to the problems of corruption, crimes or unethical practices. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also praised the decision by the President stating that only an individual who is compassionate, respects rule of law as well as respects fundamental human dignity and fundamental human law, can make such decisions. There is a need for ending this inhuman, degrading and cruel punishment and the President’s decision is a welcome move towards this direction.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that his company Prison Fellowship Zambia will provide full support to making this announcement a reality. There is a significant difference between making bold announcements and taking them to reality. As such, Dr. Mahtani’s company Prison Fellowship will provide full legal and regulatory support in this matter. Prison Fellowship was established by Dr. Rajan Mahtani more than three decades ago. The organization has come to be known as one of the top Christian Outreach Programs in Zambia dedicated towards bringing the teaching of Almighty God to the inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families in Zambia. Also, the organization focusses on providing fundamental human rights and human dignity for the prisoners. As such, Prison Fellowship Zambia and his current Chairman Dr. Rajan Mahtani can be in the forefront of this revolution started by the Zambian President.
